Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently congratulated Asia Brown, a student at Calhoun High School in North Merrick, on being named a national semi-finalist in the 2012 Intel Science Talent Search.
“Asia has earned an incredible honor which is awarded to only a select few students from across the country each year. After spending countless hours with her teachers researching, studying, and preparing her project, it’s wonderful to see her hard work rewarded by being named one of the nation’s top young science students. I congratulate Asia on this remarkable achievement, which I’m certain will be the first of many more to come,” said Senator Fuschillo.
The Intel Science Talent Search is the nation’s most prestigious pre-college science competition. Participants come from all across the country, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands to compete in the program. Asia was one of only 300 semifinalists chosen from entries nationwide.
Senator Fuschillo also presented Asia with a copy of a legislative resolution he sponsored, which were passed by the State Senate, honoring her accomplishment. With passage of the resolution, Asia’s name and achievement will forever be part of the New York State Senate’s official record.
