Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently welcomed Roosevelt High School Senior Imani Watson to the State Capitol in Albany.
Imani was in Albany to participate in the League of Women Voters New York State Education Foundation’s 12th annual Students Inside Albany conference. The conference is designed to increase high school students’ awareness of their responsibility in a representative government and to provide the tools necessary for meeting that responsibility. Students from all across the state come to Albany to learn about state government and how individual citizens can get involved in the policy making process.
As part of the conference, Imani spent an afternoon “shadowing” Senator Fuschillo during a recent Senate session. Senator Fuschillo talked with Imani about his role as a State Senator and what he does on a typical day in Albany when the Senate is in session. Senator Fuschillo also brought Imani onto the floor of the Senate Chambers, where she was able to watch legislative debates and votes on bills.
“It was a pleasure spending time with Imani, talking with her about state government, and showing her the legislative process in action. I really hope she enjoyed her experience,” said Senator Fuschillo.
