Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is inviting residents to lend a helping hand in keeping Long Island’s beaches clean by participating in a beach cleanup day he is sponsoring at Jones Beach on September 15, 2012 from 8 am to 1 pm.
Senator Fuschillo is sponsoring the event in partnership with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation and Operation SPLASH (Stop Polluting Littering And Save Harbors) to keep our beaches and shores clean and prevent pollution from harming our oceans and marine life.
“Jones Beach and its shoreline is one of the most beautiful in the world, and we want to make sure it stays that way,” said Senator Fuschillo. “Beach cleanups like this will help remove litter from our coastlines and keep it from polluting our environment and harming wildlife. I invite all residents to participate.”
Volunteers interested in participating in the beach clean-up should meet at the Theodore Roosevelt Nature Center, located at the West End of Jones Beach, starting at 8 am. Residents of all ages are welcome to participate and should dress appropriately. Rubber gloves and garbage bags will be provided. Children under age 18 will need to have a signed parental consent form, which can be signed either at the event or obtained through Senator Fuschillo’s office beforehand. Volunteers will not have to pay a parking fee.
Residents who would like more information about the beach cleanup program should call Senator Fuschillo’s office at 516-882-0630.
