Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is inviting local families to participate in his annual summer reading program. The program helps promote literacy and encourages children to continue reading during the summer months.

“Reading is a skill that benefits people throughout their lives, which is why it’s important to start reading at an early age. This program gives parents a way to help their children build their literacy skills, develop a love of reading, and make books an integral part of their lives. I invite all families to participate,” said Senator Fuschillo.

Senator Fuschillo’s Summertime Reading program is open to all elementary school students in his Senate district. To complete the program, participants must read at least three books and write a brief description of them in a “summer reading journal.” Once children fill out their journal and have it signed by a parent, they can send it back to Senator Fuschillo’s office to receive an official New York State Senate certificate.

Parents interested in having their children participate in Senator Fuschillo’s Summertime Reading program should call Senator Fuschillo’s office at 516-882-0630.
