Residents can Safely Dispose of Expired or Unused Medications on April 21st at Brady Park
Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), the Nassau County Police Department, and the Village of Massapequa Park are joining together for a “Shed the Meds” program to help residents safely disposal of unused or expired medications.
The “Shed the Meds” program will be held between 9am and 1pm at Brady Park, located at 1000 Lake Shore Drive in Massapequa Park on Saturday, April 21, 2012.
Residents who wish to participate can simply drive up, drop off their old or unused medications, and drive away. All collected medication will be safely disposed of by Nassau County Police officers, who will be supervising the program.
Safe disposal helps protect the environment and eliminates the risk of these drugs getting into the hands of small children or those who might misuse them. Improper disposal of medications, such as pouring them down the drain or flushing them down the toilet, can potentially pollute local waterways.
“This program offers residents a quick, easy and effective way to dispose of medications and reduce the chance of potential harm to others and the environment,” said Senator Fuschillo. “I invite everyone looking to drop off expired, unwanted, or unused medication on April 21st.”
All residents with questions about the “Shed the Meds” program can call Senator Fuschillo’s office at 516-882-0630.
