Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), along with the New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS) and Freeport Mayor Andrew Hardwick, recently sponsored a Free Foreclosure Prevention Program to assist homeowners facing foreclosure.

DFS’ Mobile Foreclosure Relief Center, which was located at the Freeport Train Station parking lot, provided services and assistance to homeowners facing pre-foreclosure or foreclosure proceedings.

DFS staff members met individually with homeowners, providing them with information about the foreclosure process and specific loan modification programs which may be available to them. They also offered information on how to file complaints with the Department so that suspected cases of lender or mortgage servicer abuses, such as predatory lending practices, can be investigated.

“I am pleased that we were able to provide this important service to residents,” said Senator Fuschillo. “Families who are facing financial difficulties and struggling to stay in their homes need to know that there are services available to help them. This free program enabled residents to speak one-on-one with trained specialists, ask questions, and learn about services to help them stay in their homes.”

Residents who were unable to participate in the Foreclosure Prevention Program but need assistance can call Senator Fuschillo’s office at 516-882-0630 or call the DFS’s toll-free foreclosure hotline, 1-800-269-0990 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
