Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently met with four local scouts as part of their project for a science and technology competition.
The scouts, Brian Harding and Kyle Kravit of Merrick, Jack Miller of Farmingdale, and Tim O’Leary of East Meadow, are competing as a team in the First Lego League’s “Food Factor” competition. The First Lego League is a competition designed to get children excited about science and technology through research, problem solving and engineering.
As part of the competition, the scouts must pick a type of food and identify problems it faces in staying fresh from the ground through its journey to the table. The four scouts focused on problems food faces staying fresh during transportation and discussed their project with Senator Fuschillo, who is Chairman of the Senate’s Transportation Committee. Senator Fuschillo talked with the scouts about the steps New York State takes to ensure that food is handled and delivered safely, including a law he authored to improve food transportation safety standards.
