Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently held a veterans appreciation breakfast as a way to say “thank you” for their service to our country. Over 200 veterans from across Senator Fuschillo’s Senate District came to the Seaford Knights of Columbus to participate in the event.

“This event is another way to show our appreciation and gratitude to local veterans for their service to our country and community. Each one of these local heroes made sacrifices in defense of our freedom, and they all deserve our respect and admiration. I’m pleased so many veterans were able to take part in this event,” said Senator Fuschillo.

Senator Fuschillo began the event by welcoming the veterans and thanking them for serving our country. Members of the Wantagh American Legion Bagpipe Band led in a color guard composed of girl scouts from the Girl Scouts of Nassau County, which was followed by the pledge of allegiance and the singing of the “Star Spangled Banner” by Freeport resident Joseph Smith. Senator Fuschillo then showed a short tribute video thanking them for their service to our country. Congressman Peter King (R-Seaford) served as the event’s guest speaker.

Senator Fuschillo also gave special recognition to Marine Corps Corporal Kevin Vaughan of North Merrick, who was recently named to the New York State Senate’s Veterans Hall of Fame by Senator Fuschillo. Corporal Vaughan, a decorated combat veteran, served two tours of duty in Afghanistan and received the Purple Heart after being wounded in action.

Veterans were also provided with information about different veterans’ recognition programs. Veterans who were unable to attend Senator Fuschillo’s veterans breakfast but would like copies of this information can call Senator Fuschillo’s office at 516-882-0630.
