Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), Chairman of the Senate’s Transportation Committee, today wrote to the Board of Directors of the New York State Thruway Authority strongly urging them to reject their proposal to increase tolls by 45 percent because it is “a step in the wrong direction for economic recovery in our state.”
In his letter, Senator Fuschillo stated that “making it more expensive to transport goods across the state sends a message that the Thruway Authority is closing New York State for business.” Additionally, Senator Fuschillo noted that consumers will ultimately pay more for a wide variety of goods because the increase “will force industries to pass these additional costs to consumers in the form of higher prices.”
