Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently welcomed Massapequa Park Girl Scout Lauren Kerl to the Senate Chambers in Albany.
Lauren, a member of the Massapequa Association of Girl Scouts, was in Albany as part of the Girl Scouts’ annual legislative showcase featuring bronze, silver, and gold award recipients from across the state.
Lauren earned the Gold Award, the highest honor in Girl Scouting, after completing a project to help parents with children who are deaf and/or hearing impaired. Partnering with the support group “Speak Up Long Island,” Lauren created a website and a reference book for the group which contained informational links of resources and tools, along with a resource kit of supplies, to help improve the quality of life for these families.
Senator Fuschillo congratulated Lauren on earning the award and brought her onto the floor of the Senate Chambers, where she got to watch a working session of the New York State Senate. Senator Fuschillo also showed Lauren a copy of the legislative resolution he sponsored, which was recently passed by the Senate, in honor of her accomplishment. With the Senate passage of the resolution, Lauren’s name and achievement will forever be part of the New York State Senate’s official record.
“It was a pleasure meeting Lauren and congratulating her on earning her Gold Award. After years of hard work and commitment, Lauren earned Girl Scouting’s highest honor, something which only a select few young women ever achieve. I’m certain this is the first of many outstanding accomplishments that Lauren will achieve, and I wish her all the best in the future,” said Senator Fuschillo.
