Squadron: Henderson's Dedication, Kindness, and Leadership Has Made Carroll Park the Heart of Our Community
ALBANY -- Last night, State Senator Daniel Squadron honored Carroll Park Playground Associate Kathleen Henderson as a New York "Woman of Distinction." Ms. Henderson and her family and friends traveled to Albany for the celebration.
Ms. Henderson, considered the "den mother of Carroll Park," has been at the center of the park's transformation over the 16 years she's held this role. From entertaining and taking care of Carroll Gardens' children, to keeping the park safe and welcoming, Ms. Henderson has become a fixture in the community.
In 2011, Ms. Henderson's position was eliminated during budget cuts; however, the community and local officials rallied around her, resulting in the Parks Department reinstating her position.
"It's hard to overstate just how loved and appreciated Kathleen is by the Carroll Gardens community," said Senator Squadron. "Kathleen's ability to make all feel welcome has helped turn Carroll Park into the heart of our community. The dedication and kindness she brings with her everyday is an example for all. I'm thrilled to honor Kathleen for everything she's done for our community -- and I look forward to seeing her whenever I bring my son to the park."
"It was a great honor to be included among the ranks of so many wonderful New York women," said Ms. Henderson. "Thank you Senator Squadron. I had a blast celebrating in Albany!"
Senator Squadron will host a celebration in honor of Ms. Henderson on Saturday, June 2nd at 11:00AM at Carroll Park. The entire community is invited.
