PAIN AT THE PUMP: Senator Carlucci Blasts Rockland Gas Stations for Price Gouging Customers

NANUET, NY – With gas in scarce supply and commuters eager to get back on the road, Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Orange) today blasted Rockland gas stations for alleged price gouging during the aftermath and cleanup of Hurricane Sandy. 

“It is unacceptable for any gas station operator to engage in the illegal practice of price gouging, especially during a time when residents have sustained incredible loss and damage,” said Senator Carlucci.  “People are experiencing enough pain right now and the last thing they need is more pain at the pump.”

Senator Carlucci indicated that his office has received numerous complaints from Rockland residents over possible gouging, and has demanded that the New York State Attorney General launch an investigation into possible wrongdoing.

Particularly during these tough economic times and in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, gasoline prices are susceptible to illicit activity. 

Back in 2011, Senator Carlucci co-sponsored legislation (S.603) that would prohibit gasoline prices from being adjusted at the pump multiple times daily on the same lot of gasoline, which was purchased wholesale at a fixed price.  This would result in a civil fine of up to $500 dollars.
