State Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) named Randi Bregman, Executive Director at Vera House, as the 49th Senate District’s “Woman of Distinction” as part of the New York State Senate’s 15th Annual Women of Distinction celebration.
“Randi Bregman has dedicated her career to helping those in need, and she is an inspiration to us all,” Senator Valesky said. “Her selfless dedication to eradicating violence and abuse is to be commended, and I am pleased to honor her as a Woman of Distinction.”
In addition to her duties at Vera House, Bregman, of Manlius, also serves as Co-Chair of the Syracuse-Area Domestic and Sexual Violence Coalition, Chair of the Human Services Leadership Council of CNY, and serves on the NYS Office of Victim Services Advisory Council, the NYS Coalition Against Sexual Assault Policy Committee and the Board of the Food Bank of Central New York.
In addition, she has facilitated support groups for women who have experienced abuse and provided counseling and advocacy for individuals affected by domestic and sexual violence. She continues to answer Vera House’s 24-hour domestic violence/sexual assault hotline.
Bregman has received numerous awards in recognition of her work, including the Social Justice Award and Distinguished Alumna Award from the Syracuse University School of Social Work, BIZEVENTZ Non-Profit Executive of the Year, the District Attorney’s Award through the District Attorney’s Advisory Council and the Post-Standard Achievement Award.
Bregman was recognized at a ceremony in Albany on May 15, along with other honorees from across the state.
The Senate’s “Woman of Distinction” program was created in 1998 to honor New York women who exemplify personal excellence, or whose professional achievements or acts of courage, selflessness, integrity or perseverance serve as an example to all New Yorkers. Since the inception of the program, more than 400 women have been honored as Women of Distinction.
