Senator Valesky Nominates Salina Man for Induction to NYS Senate Veterans Hall of Fame

ALBANY, N.Y.--Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) today announced the posthumous induction of Anthony C. "Tony" Nesci, Sr., formerly of Liverpool, into the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame in honor of his meritorious service to the nation and his community.

“Tony’s tireless efforts on behalf of veterans in Central New York deserves our gratitude and recognition,” Senator Valesky said. “He will always be remembered for his determination in bringing veterans issues to the forefront and ensuring all veterans be recognized and appreciated for their service.” Valesky said.

Born in Syracuse in 1938, Nesci served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1961. He was stationed in Germany and achieved the rank of Private First Class 3.

After his service, he continued to support veterans through participation on many committees and advisory boards which guided policy and programs for veterans, including the City of Syracuse Veterans Advisory Board, OnCenter Veterans Advisory Board, UAW Veterans Committee, the Battle of the Bulge Veterans organization, and Vietnam Veterans Chapter #103.

Nesci also served as Chairman of the Veterans Memorial at the New York State Fair, was a Life-Member of American Legion Post 188 and was active in volunteering and fund raising for the VA Hospital. He was named Onondaga County Veteran of the Year in 2010.

In 2000, Nesci founded the Eagle Association of CNY, a not-for-profit organization, to support veterans through donations to military and veterans’ organizations and advocacy on their behalf. He was instrumental in getting the Vietnam Moving Wall memorial to stop in Onondaga County and was one of the driving forces behind the construction and expansion of a permanent Veterans Memorial at the New York State Fairgrounds.

Nesci passed away in June 2011. He and his wife, Annette, were married for 45 years and have four children.

The New York State Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame was created in 2005 to honor and recognize outstanding veterans from the Empire State who have distinguished themselves both in military and civilian life. Their meritorious service to our nation deserves the special recognition that only a Hall of Fame can provide, as a fitting expression of our gratitude and admiration.
