Senator Dean Skelos today announced that he has secured funding in the amount of $10,000 in bullet aid for the Peninsula Library. This funding will help the Peninsula Library continue to provide excellent programs and services to the Five Towns community.
“I was pleased to secure $10,000 in state aid for the Peninsula Library which will allow them to expand programs and services provided to our community,” said Senator Skelos. “From learning to read, completing a school project, accessing the internet, or simply finding a good book, our library offers a wide variety of resources and these grants will help our library to do even more.”
Specifically, this grant will be used to purchase a new sound system in the library meeting room, in addition to purchasing a smart board which will be used for library programming and community use. With technological advances, it is essential to upgrade library facilities in order to best accommodate the community members for a more convenient and enjoyable experience.
“On behalf of the PPL Board of Trustees and the staff of the Peninsula Public Library I would like to Senator Skelos for the Bullet Aid grant that he secured for the Library,” said Karen Porcella, Director, Peninsula Public Library. “We have seen tremendous increases in the usage of our library during these difficult economic times. With his generous grant we will be able to
upgrade our technology and continue to provide the excellent level of service that our community has come to expect. Senator Skelos has always been a strong
supporter of libraries and we thank him for his continued support.”
Additionally, Senator Skelos passed a provision in the state budget that will provide for reimbursement of the MTA Payroll tax to public libraries, including the Peninsula Public Library. This reimbursement will save tax payers across Long Island tens of thousands of dollars each year which had been going to pay this onerous tax.
“I am pleased to have been able to support the Peninsula Library and again demonstrate my strong commitment to our public libraries. I look forward to continuing this good work in the future” said Senator Skelos.
