May 7, 2012

Bronx, NY - Senator Gustavo Rivera (D, WF-Bronx) hosted his first in a series of public safety workshops in partnership with STEPS to End Family Violence on the issue of Bullying and Cyber Bullying. Parents, teenagers and community leaders attended the workshop to share stories of bullying and ways to prevent and address cyber-bullying and bullying in schools.

"As an elected official, it is incredibly important to me to provide safety tips and information that can help keep Bronx families and individuals safe this summer and throughout the year," said Senator Gustavo Rivera. "I am similarly committed to providing a space for productive conversations around public safety topics that are impacting our communities, such as bullying and cyber bullying, gang violence, stop and frisk and domestic violence."

"We are so happy that Senator Rivera and STEPS to end Family Violence collaborated to shine a light on the pervasive issue of bullying and cyber bullying," said Molly Brigham, from STEPS to End Family Violence. "Bullying does not discriminate and is a wide spread problem in New York and across the U.S. Providing a workshop on the issue is very positive, provides information and gives the opportunity to have an open discussion on the issue of bullying and cyber-bullying. "

This was the first in a series of four Public Safety Workshops in the month of May hosted by State Senator Gustavo Rivera.
