Senator Farley Announces Community Health Fair Slated for April 10th

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) will be hosting his annual health fair on Tuesday, April 10th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the lower level of the Riverfront Center, Amsterdam.
"Called the Community Wellness Day, this event has always been successful in delivering information on services that local agencies provide to the public," Senator Farley said.
The Family Room of Catholic Charities is co-hosting the event. The health fair is geared towards people of all ages and is set during the break week for local schools so families can participate. Those unable to attend can call Senator Farley’s office to obtain brochures and weblinks on health topics.
There are over 50 participating vendors that will be hosting activities or handing out information on their services. The American Red Cross will have Scrubby Bear on hand, a program that highlights hygiene for children, as well as information on citizen’s CPR and emergency management. The New York State Comptroller’s Office will have its Unclaimed Funds Unit available. Home Health Care will perform free blood pressure screenings. The Fidelisaurus and Amsterdam Mohawks mascot MoJo will be available to greet children. Miss Empire Rose, Katelynn Smith of Fulton County, will be on hand to discuss her platform of suicide prevention. EPIC representatives will be able to answer questions on the changes in its program. The Family Room will host some children’s activities and there will be a craft table available for children to make creative art. Diabetes will be a topic of discussion for St. Mary’s Healthcare and Nathan Littauer HealthLink will provide free Body Mass Index testing. Listeners Choice will have information on hearing aides while New Dimensions will have information on dental services.
Other participants include New York Long Term Care Program, Community Health Center, Top Quality Home Care, Tobacco Free Coalition, WIC (Women-Infants-Children), Fulton County Domestic Violence, The Family Room, The Family Counseling Center, The Fulton-Montgomery Suicide Prevention Task Force, Child Health Plus, New York Oncology Hematology, Montgomery County Public Health, Amsterdam Low Vision & Visually Impaired Support Group, Fulton County Public Health, Northeast Parent & Child Society, Fulton County Office for Aging, Catholic Charities Prevention Program, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), MVP, Reality Check, Project Action, Commission on Economic Opportunity for the Greater Capital Region, Fidelis Care, Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery Prevention Council, Montgomery County Domestic Violence Services, Montgomery County Office for Aging, the Community Hospice of Amsterdam, Relay for Life of Amsterdam, New York Statewide Senior Action Council, Montgomery County Emergency Management, GAVAC (Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps), Mental Health Association of Fulton and Montgomery Counties, the Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York, EPIC (Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage Program), NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), CDPHP, Tri-County Mediation, Curves Perth-Amsterdam, American Red Cross and Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York.
