State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R,C, I - Schenectady) had the pleasure of introducing the band students from Schenectady High School and its John Sayles School of Fine Arts to his colleagues at the New York State Senate on May 30th as he sponsored a Senate Resolution honoring their achievements at a recent music festival in Williamsburg, Virginia.

"These students are truly amazing," Senator Farley said. "Their dedication and accomplishments should be admired. They are an inspiration to their fellow students and their community," Senator Farley said.

Three bands from Schenectady High School and its award-winning John Sayles School of Fine Arts competed in the Music Festivals that were held in April in Virgina. It was the first time the bands participated in this competition and the Concert Band earned first place and was named Overall Festival Grand Champion. The Jazz Ensemble also earned first place and the Marching Band earned third place in its category. The Concert Band percussion section, the Jazz Band rhythm section, and the Marching Band's drumline were also all recognized at the festival and were named "Outstanding." Sean Oback was named Outstanding Musician and Chris Dobson was named Outstanding Soloist.

All bands were led by Director Joel Servant.
