Senator Farley Names Supreme Court Justice As Woman of Distinction

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) had the pleasure of naming Supreme Court Justice Ann Crowell as a New York State Senate Woman of Distinction at a ceremony in Albany on May 15th.

"Judge Crowell is an amazing woman," Senator Farley said. "She made history in 2011 when she became the first woman to be elected to the Supreme Court in New York’s Fourth Judicial District, which covers eleven counties." She also served as president of the Saratoga County Bar Association and a board member of both the Capital District and Adirondack Women's bar associations. She is a graduate of Leadership Saratoga and the NYS Governor's Leadership Program. She is also a dedicated Hospice volunteer.

Supreme Court Justice Crowell was recognized in a special reception Tuesday night in the Well of the Legislative Office Building in Albany. The program honors distinguished women whose outstanding work in their communities makes them deserving of special recognition by the State Senate.

Senator Farley reported that Judge Crowell’s public service began as a law clerk in both the Schenectady County Public Defender’s Office and the Rensselaer County District Attorney’s office. Upon admission to the bar she practiced in several area firms as a trial attorney focusing on personal injury litigation. Judge Crowell returned to the public sector in 1999 as Deputy Counsel to the NYS Division of Parole and served for nine years after that as Confidential Law Clerk to Honorable Stephen A. Ferradino.
