Senator Jack M. Martins is informing residents about a program which will provide rebates to residents who purchase high-efficiency refrigerators and clothes washers. The rebate program, which is being administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), will begin on Monday, March 19th.

The “Buy Green, Save Green NYS High-Efficiency Appliance Rebate Program” offers consumers rebates of $350 for purchasing high-efficiency refrigerators and $250 for purchasing high-efficiency clothes washers. Eligible appliances must meet Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE) super-efficiency levels (tiers 2 and 3). Super-efficient appliances use significantly less electricity than the federal standard and are at the upper end of ENERGY STAR efficiency levels. Super-efficient clothes washers also use less water than standard washing machines.

Rebate applications will be available starting March 19th at www.NYSApplianceRebates.com or by calling 1-877-NY-SMART. The site will list high-efficiency refrigerators and clothes washers that are eligible for rebates. Purchases must be made on or after March 19th to qualify; those made before March 19th are ineligible.

Rebates will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis for completed applications starting March 19th. The program will continue until funding is exhausted.
