Senator Martins Names Jean-Marie Posner a NYS Senate Woman of Distinction

Each year, the New York State Senate honors women who have made significant contributions to their community and, in doing so, have had a positive impact on New York State. This year, Senator Jack M. Martins named Jean-Marie Posner of Sands Point the Seventh Senate District Woman of Distinction.
On Tuesday, May 16, Jean-Marie made the trip to Albany for the special ceremony that was held after Senate Session, during which the women of distinction from each of the Senate districts were recognized.
“Jean-Marie has meant so much to many organizations and fellow residents. Her work for the Friends of the Sands Point Preserve as well as for education and senior citizen affairs has left an indelible mark on the community,” said Senator Martins.

Through her commitment and dedication, Jean-Marie Posner of Sands Point has worked tirelessly to enrich the lives of others while displaying an unwavering support of the beautification of her community and the education of all children.
The volunteer and public office positions she has held are numerous with each organization relying on her leadership, which has proved to be invaluable. As the vice-chairman of the Friends of the Sands Point Preserve, a position she has held since 2003, Jean-Marie has worked toward the preservation and protection of the beauty of the Preserve, enabling current and future residents to enjoy the educational and cultural experiences it has to offer.
In addition to her involvement with the Friends of the Sands Point Preserve, Jean-Marie also serves as the President of the Port Washington Senior Center, which enriches the lives of senior citizens throughout the community by providing invaluable programs and services.
As if her contributions to these two organizations weren’t enough, Jean-Marie also finds time to serve on the Town of North Hempstead Environmental Legacy Fund, as well as serving as Vice-President of the Sands Point Civic Association and Assistant Treasurer of the Port Washington Education Foundation, which supports educational opportunities for students of the Port Washington Schools. In addition, her efforts in promoting creativity through the visual arts has also benefitted The Art Guild at Elderfields Preserve, where Jean-Marie served as Treasurer for five years.
Jean-Marie has also been a part of the rich history of The Community Synagogue in Port Washington, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, serving as a board director as well as President of the Sisterhood of the Community Synagogue.
The impact Jean-Marie has had on her community extends to residents of all ages. Due to her commitment to education, she has made significant contributions to the Port Washington schools and her efforts remain enduring. For six years, she served as an elected trustee on the Port Washington Board of Education, where she worked with her colleagues in maintaining a standard of excellence in the schools. During her time on the board, Jean-Marie served as Chairperson of the Budget & Fiscal, Facility, Advisory Audit and Planning Committees. Her devotion to learning has deeply benefitted the students of Port Washington and the community as a whole.
Jean-Marie earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting at Pace University and went on to a successful career in real estate financing, having earned certificates in Real Estate Finance, Property Management and Construction/Development from New York University.
Jean-Marie is married to Steven B. Posner and has a daughter Haley, who attends public high school in Port Washington.
Each year, the New York State Senate takes the opportunity to honor those women who have made enormous contributions to their communities and who serve as role models for all others to follow. For her dedication to improving the lives of her fellow citizens and for all her work in advancing issues critical to the state such as education, senior citizens affairs and the environment, Senator Jack M. Martins proudly nominates Jean-Marie Posner as a 2012 New York State Senate Woman of Distinction.
