Governor Andrew Cuomo has just unveiled his new Executive Budget Proposal -- marking the beginning of the State Budget negotiation and adoption process for the 2012-2013 Fiscal Year.
Last year, the Senate passed an on-time budget that achieved our critically important goals of controlling spending, avoiding tax increases and helping to create new private sector jobs. As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Economic Development and Small Business, I worked closely with Governor Cuomo and Lt. Gov. Duffy to put forth many proposals included in the final budget negotiations – most noticeably the creation of the Regional Economic Development Councils that have distributed nearly $1 billion in money for economic revitalization and job growth in New York State. This year, we will look to build upon this progress by passing an on-time, fiscally responsible budget that keeps our State moving in the right direction.
