Senator Jim Alesi will attend the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade Saturday, March 17, 2012, where he will be marching with FDNY as an honored guest. The parade is expected to stop in front of St. Patrick’s Cathedral where they will be greeted by Cardinal Timothy Dolan.
Each year the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade recognizes the efforts of a charity or distinguished group of people who serve to make our communities strong. In its 250th year, the 2012 New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be marched in honor of all American veterans from every branch of service and every war of conflict.
“I am honored to be marching alongside fellow members of the American Irish Legislators Society and FDNY this St. Patrick’s Day as we honor, recognize and celebrate the brave men and women of our Armed Forces,” said Senator Alesi. “I am always humbled by the brave veterans who selflessly served our country in order to protect the freedoms that we as a nation enjoy today.”
Senator Alesi has been working with representatives of the EMS branch of the FDNY to advance his CPR legislation that will offer basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training for high school students. By including CPR instruction in high schools, an entire generation would be armed with the knowledge and skills necessary to save lives.
The American Irish Legislators Society was founded in 1973 and is a charitable group which raises awareness for education and cultural Irish programs. Senator Alesi’s maternal grandparents came from Ireland with the family name McShane.
