Law Signed Allowing Canadarago Lake To Pursue Grant Dollars
James L. Seward
July 18, 2012
ONEONTA, 07/19/12 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) announced today that legislation declaring Canadarago Lake as a “major inland lake” has been signed into law by Governor Cuomo. The legislation allows local officials to apply for grants under the New York State Local Waterfront Revitalization Program.
“Canadarago Lake presents families and sportsmen with endless recreational opportunities while boosting the local economy,” said Senator Seward. “Providing an additional funding stream for improvements at Canadarago Lake will mean benefits for residents, tourists and area businesses. Utilizing grant funds will also save local property taxpayers from footing the bill for any upgrades.”
The legislation (S.6763/A.9672) sponsored by Senator Seward follows a local request from the towns of Exeter, Otsego and Richfield and adds Canadarago Lake to a list of other inland New York lakes eligible for grant funding.
The Local Waterfront Revitalization Program is administered by the Department of State and provides funding for planning, design and construction projects. A Local Waterfront Revitalization Program is both a plan and a program. The term refers to both a planning document prepared by a community, as well as the program established to implement the plan. The program may be comprehensive and address all issues that affect a community's entire waterfront or it may address the most critical issues facing a significant portion of its waterfront.
The bill was sponsored by Assemblyman Bill Magee in the assembly.
The law will take effect immediately.
