Albany, NY – State Senator John J. Bonacic (R,C,I – Mount Hope), today presented Court Officers; Sergeant Robert Kowal, Michael Mathisen, Scott Truex and Michele Lynch of the Middletown City Court with a Senate Resolution honoring their courage and bravery by preventing a gunman who entered the Middletown City Court from going on a killing spree on February 8, 2012.
“These four individuals put their lives at risk,” said Senator Bonacic. “As someone who, in my former career as an attorney, spent many hours in the courtroom, I know the importance of safety and security measures. I am proud, along with my Senate colleagues, to thank and honor these four individuals who acted with courage and valor to save the lives of everyone present in the courthouse that day, we are forever indebted to them.”
Earlier in the day, Senator Bonacic and Middletown Mayor Joe DeStefano spoke at an event honoring the Court Officers at the New York State Court of Appeals in Albany, where they were each presented with the Medal of Valor from the Judiciary.
Senator Bonacic also presented each Court Officer with the Senate Liberty Medal in his Middletown Office last week.
