…Answer homeowner inquiries about the foreclosure process in New York State.
…Assist homeowners in efforts to obtain loan modifications and other forms of relief.
…Take complaints from aggrieved homeowners seeking resolution with banks and mortgage servicers.
Homeowners should bring all relevant information to document their personal situations, such as records of mortgage payments, correspondence from lenders and foreclosure notices. Department of Financial Services representatives will help homeowners understand: What Happens When You Fall Behind in Mortgage Payments...Alternatives to Foreclosure...Your Rights as a Homeowner and related issues
Homeowners unable to attend may file complaints using the Department website, www.dfs.ny.gov. Information may be obtained by calling the Department's toll-free foreclosure hotline, 1-800-269-0990 or 518-457-1654, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
