Senator Flanagan Welcomes Cadet Color Guard To Albany

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) welcomed the members of the Colonel Francis S. Gabreski Cadet Squadron from the Long Island group of Civil Air Patrol Color Guard to the Senate Chamber in Albany.  The group, which is comprised of young adults from across Long Island and included several young constituents from Senator Flanagan’s district, presented the colors at the ceremonial beginning of the 2012 Senate Session.

The Civil Air Patrol is the volunteer, non-profit auxiliary of the United States Air Force.  They mainly serve New Yorkers by providing an array of emergency services including forest fire protection, disaster relief service and other vitally important tasks.  The cadets are part of a program that is designed for young adults ages 12 to 18 to provide them with lessons that will help them build life skills and instill values including teamwork, personal integrity, leadership, respect and self confidence.

“The presentation of the colors at the beginning of session is a very significant event in the New York State Senate and it gives me great pride to see those I represent take part in this ceremony.  These young men and women are all future leaders of our state and our nation and their participation in this program will benefit them for years to come.  I thank them and their leaders for dedicating the time to this worthy program and for coming to Albany,” stated Senator Flanagan.
