Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) recently welcomed Commack High School junior Samantha Kunz to Albany as she took part in the twelfth annual Students Inside Albany program. While in Albany, Ms. Kunz shadowed Senator Flanagan for an afternoon and joined him on the Senate floor during a recent legislative session.
The program, which is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of New York State Education Foundation, is designed to increase high school students’ awareness of their responsibility in representative government and provide information about the tools necessary to meet that responsibility. Ms. Kunz became involved after she attended a Smithtown Youth Advisory Board Meeting and applied for the contest through the League of Women Voters of Smithtown Township.
“This program is a great opportunity for young men and women from throughout our state to come to Albany and gain insight into their government. It was my pleasure to host Ms. Kunz and I thank the League of Women Voters for sponsoring this program,” stated Senator Flanagan.
