Senator Serrano celebrated the 19th Anniversary Celebration of Maggie’s Garden in East Harlem. The Senator joined Maria Amurrio, attendant of Maggie’s Garden, volunteers of the community garden, and other community residents for this celebration. The celebration provided attendees with information about the garden and entertainment.
"Many thanks to Maria and all the volunteers for making this Community Garden such a wonderful place for the residents of El Barrio,” said Senator Serrano. “In the past, when many people turned their backs on our community, gardeners across our city enhanced our neighborhoods by beautifying empty and abandoned lots and turning them into local gardens. Community Gardens are a way to leave a great impact on our environment and to provide a legacy for generations to come. A big thanks also goes to NYC Parks and the Green Thumb program for preserving and enhancing viable green space in our urban environment.”
