Senator Serrano Celebrates the Groundbreaking of new Manhattan College Facility

Senator Serrano today celebrated the groundbreaking of the new facility, Raymond W. Kelly ’63 Student Commons, in Manhattan College. Designated for opening in 2014, the 70,000 square-foot facility will offer space for dining, community events, wellness and fitness programs, while integrating student life and academics. In addition, the $48 million project will provide Manhattan College with its first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified building.

“This is a tremendous opportunity to increase social and academic success in the Manhattan College community, while simultaneously providing an outlet for community involvement,” said Senator Serrano. “This state-of-the-art facility will provide countless students with a space to engage in recreational activities that foster learning and development. The new facility is also a major technological advancement, introducing LEED and green energy structures to our community via academic growth and expansion. In addition, this facility also commemorates Commissioner Kelly as not only an Alumni, but as a committed leader in keeping New York City safe,” continued Serrano.

Named in honor of alumnus and New York City Policy Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly, the facility is located on Manhattan College Parkway in what is currently referred to as Waldo Parking lot.
