(New York, NY)- Senator José M. Serrano (D-Manhattan/Bronx) invites you to celebrate the first ever Museum Week in New York from May 31-June 6. The initiative was spearheaded by Senator Betty Little (R-Queensbury) and I Love NY. Throughout New York State more than 200 museums, zoos and botanical gardens, historic homes, living history museums, arts centers and cultural organizations will participate in this inaugural celebration. New York State Museum Week celebrates the diversity and richness of its museums by inviting residents and visitors alike to discover the fascinating worlds of art, photography, history, science, and more. Participating institutions will be offering special events, activities and promotions to give guests a sample of the exhibitions and programs available at the nearly 2,000 museums located throughout New York.
"New York State is home to some of the nation's most diverse and renown cultural and artistic institutions," said Senator Serrano. "However, many New Yorkers aren’t aware of all the culturally enriching and educational resources they have available right in their backyards. I encourage New Yorkers to support the arts during Museum Week by visiting New York's museums, botanical gardens, zoos, and historic homes. We must also remember to visit and support these wonderful institutions with our family and friends long after Museum Week is over. I would like to commend Betty Little for her work in launching Museum Week, and her unwavering support of cultural institutions throughout the state."
Museum week comes at the heels of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s launch of a new tourism advertising campaign encouraging people to visit the many tourist attractions New York State has to offer, and encouraging New Yorkers to submit their own versions of the “I Love NY” Logo.
“I applaud Governor Cuomo for, not only creating an ad campaign that supports one of our state’s most important economic engines, but for encouraging New Yorkers to take an active role in the promotion of our State’s most exciting attractions.”
Senator Serrano and Senator Little are the sponsors of a Senate Resolution in honor of Museum Week. For more information on Museum Week and participating cultural institutions, please visit http://www.iloveny.com/summer/themes/museum-week.aspx.
