Senator José M. Serrano was invited as a special guest at the annual reception of Parks & Trails New York. In 2010, Senator Serrano was honored at the annual event with the George W. Perkins “Parks Champion” award, for his continued advocacy on behalf of New York’s State Parks.
Among this year’s honorees was Governor Andrew Cuomo. The award recipients were commemorated for their dedication to understanding the importance of believing in, investing, and rebuilding New York’s extensive parks and trails facilities.
“Parks offer countless recreational opportunities, and foster an important appreciation for the outdoors,” said Senator Serrano. “The steadfast leadership of the honorees has played a vital role in promoting and protecting our park system. In addition, Parks & Trails New York has been a long time advocate for our beloved parks, trails, and open spaces. The grassroots support that Parks & Trails has cultivated throughout the State has been essential in ensuring that our park system remains among the most magnificent in the nation. Many thanks to Parks & Trails for their continued dedication to the great outdoors,” continued Serrano.
The reception was hosted by Parks & Trails New York, a statewide organization working to protect New York’s Parks. Founded in 1985, Parks & Trails New York has grown to over 5,000 members and supporters from every region of the state. Their mission is to expand, protect and promote parks, trails, and open spaces throughout New York for use and enjoyment by all.
Senator Serrano currently serves as ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Cultural Affairs, Tourism, Parks and Recreation, and sits on the Committee for Environmental Conservation.
