Senator Serrano joined community residents, environmental organizations, and other elected officials at Robert Clemente State park for the third annual Harlem River Festival. The festival was hosted by the Harlem River Working Group, and included activities ranging from boat rides, water conferences on sustaining clean water for Harlem River, and an open forum allowing community residents to engage with elected officials.
“This park brings much needed green space and Harlem River waterfront access to members of our community” said Senator Serrano. “Robert Clemente Park is a great recreational space for families to come together, for children to play, and for the community to stay active,” continued Serrano.
In addition, the Harlem River Festival served as a celebration of the Harlem River Greenway. Once completed, the Greenway will include parks, bike and pedestrian paths and entirely new waterfront spaces for Bronx residents. The Harlem River Greenway will also serve as an interconnected link to the Putnam Trail, South Bronx Greenway, and the Randall’s Island Connector.
"This is an opportunity for Bronx residents to get excited about what is going on in our neighborhood as well as educate ourselves on the amazing changes coming to the South Bronx,” said Senator Serrano. “The Harlem River Working Group does a great job of encouraging the community to take advantage of everything this park has to offer, and this festival is the perfect example of their dedication. As an elected official I will continue to advocate for improving environmental quality and access to the Harlem River” continued Serrano.
Senator Serrano currently serves as Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Cultural Affairs, Tourism, Parks and Recreation, and sits on the Committee for Environmental Conservation.
