Senator Serrano and the American Red Cross in Greater New York today sponsored an Emergency Preparedness Workshop in the Bronx. The event was co-sponsored by Bronx Borough President Ruben Díaz, Jr. and Highbridge Community Life Center. Attendees learned how to create a family disaster plan, build and maintain a supply kit, and keep loved ones safe and informed during times of disaster.
The event, which took place as part of Highbridge Community Life Center’s Literacy Zone, provided local residents with a free interactive CD that can be used to create a customized evacuation plan and other tools that will help any family get prepared in case of an emergency.
“I am very happy to have sponsored this workshop here in Highbridge, as it's extremely important for all citizens to become educated on how they can prepare in the event a disaster does occur," said Senator Serrano. "As we witnessed last year with Hurricane Irene, many people did not have an emergency response plan in place. The American Red Cross in Greater New York has designed a great comprehensive plan for families to utilize in case of an emergency.”
