Griffo: Redistricting Plan Largely Keeps Current 47th District Intact

Senator Joseph A. Griffo (R-C-IP, Rome) today said that the redistricting plan released today continues to include most of Oneida County, much of St. Lawrence County and all of Lewis County within his 47th District.

“The people of my district have been united by common themes and goals, and I look forward to working with the people of Oneida, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties to continue to hold down government spending and revive our Central New York and North Country economy,” Griffo said.  “I would have preferred to have made Oneida County whole, but I recognize that redistricting involves making compromises and that some changes cannot be avoided. However, I believe that by continuing to hold down state spending, reform Albany and help grow new jobs, that I will be continuing to work for the best interests of all the people of those counties.”

Griffo said that the proposed plan’s decision to include all of the city of Rome in one Senate district would accomplish a long-sought goal of the city’s leaders. He also noted that boundary shifts due to redistricting will mean that continued need for bipartisanship and collaboration that have marked his tenure in the Senate. “Sharing representation for a county means setting aside partisan issues or personal concerns and working in partnership for the good of all the people – and that’s what I have always been for throughout my public service career. “
