Griffo, Brindisi Meeting with Local Leaders on Cooperative Economic Development and Water Resource Issues
(UTICA) -- State Senator Joseph A. Griffo (R-C-IP, Rome) and Assemblyman Anthony J. Brindisi (D-Utica) have announced that tomorrow, October 31st , they are facilitating and convening a gathering of leaders from Oneida County, Utica, and Rome to discuss regional economic development and water resources.
They will be joined by the head of New York's top environmental science research college, Cornelius ‘Neil’ B. Murphy, Jr., President of the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, who is expected to add his environmental expertise in the water conversations.
“This is an opportunity to discuss how to continue the progress away from differing strategies and individual approaches with economic development, and to remain focused on regional efforts,” said Griffo. “We will also look at ideas to promote a cooperative and coordinated water use resource strategy.”
Both legislators expect that local leaders from the cities of Rome, Utica and Oneida and representatives of the Mohawk Valley Water Authority, will look forward to listening to President Murphy’s insights to the region’s water supply issues.
“We are hopeful that this meeting can be a starting point toward a discussion with more of the stakeholders in the water issue,” Brindisi said. “Many people in the Mohawk Valley still must rely on well water, and we want to continue the dialogue toward resolving that problem.”
