Senator Parker Announces $27.7 Million in Federal Disaster Aid to Communities Hurt by Hurricane Sandy

(Brooklyn, NY) In the wake of Hurricane Sandy and the recent devastation which has plagued New York State, Senator Parker is pleased to announce that New York State has received $27.7 million in Disaster National Emergency Grant funds. This grant will be used to hire workers to help clean up communities affected by Hurricane Sandy in Bronx, Kings, Nassau, New York, Orange, Putnam, Queens, Richmond, Rockland, Suffolk, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester counties.

“Since the devastation and hard times inflicted on our state by Hurricane Sandy last month, many constituents and businesses are still struggling to recover,” Senator Parker said. “This aid will help begin putting these New Yorkers back to work and rebuilding our wounded infrastructure.”

Many communities throughout New York State were devastated by the destruction that Hurricane Sandy caused, leaving many still without water, power, or food, and especially those connected to the Rockaway Peninsula or Brooklyn and Queens. Workers who lost their jobs as a direct result of Hurricane Sandy or workers who were unemployed prior to the storm are eligible to apply for temporary but vital positions.
