(Breezy point, NY)- New York State Senator Malcolm A. Smith will be joining local civic and community organizations in honoring over five-hundred New York City fire fighters, military servicemen and first responders who worked through extremely dangerous conditions in the Rockaway section of Queens during Hurricane Sandy, one of the worst storms to strike the area in decades.
The Rockaway community was devastated by Sandy, which left thousands without heat and electricity. Hundreds of homes on the peninsula were completely destroyed by fire or water damage. Local residents that were affected by the hurricane are preparing hundreds of trays of penne ala Georgi Vodka to thank the fire fighters and first responders, many of whom worked around the clock to take people out of their flooded or burning homes.
