Senator Golden Facilitates Effort to Replace American and Pow/mia Flags in Lt. Coffey Square

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), a member of the Senate Committee on Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs, is announcing that he has helped orchestrate, working with the New York City Parks Department, the replacement of the American and POW/MIA flags at Lieutenant William Coffey Square, located at 81st Street and Seventh Avenue.

Senator Golden had received an inquiry from a local resident who frequently walks past Lt. Coffey Square which pays tributes to our American veterans.

The resident was concerned that the American Flag and the POW/MIA flag were frayed and damaged, and asked Senator Golden to assist in getting replacements.

Senator Golden stated, “An American flag is the greatest symbol of democracy in the world and I thank the Parks Department for replacing the flag so to properly honor our veterans. The Parks Department has also informed me that they are in the process of replacing the POW/MIA flag. I am grateful to the local resident for bringing this to my attention, for as we approach our Nation’s celebration of Memorial Day, we must honor our military and our nation by displaying our Stars and Stripes.”

Senator Golden recently had the American flag on the 69th Street Pier replaced after being contacted by a another area resident. Senator Golden also recently donated flags to three residents of the 500 Block of 73rd Street to replace their stolen flags stolen.
