Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today visited Fort Hamilton High School and honored senior Joel Acevedo upon his selection for a $2000 scholarship awarded by Unidad Latina. Joel Acevedo, who was nominated by Senator Golden, was one of the 15 college-bound high school seniors recently awarded a scholarship through this program.
Senator Marty Golden stated, “Joel is a distinguished young man who has already proven his commitment to both his community and education. I am confident that he will excel in his future education and I am proud to have nominated him for this scholarship.”
In addition to his academic excellence, Joel is the President of the Drama Society at Fort Hamilton High School, was awarded the Shakespeare Award, and is involved in student orientations and school welcome events.
Scholarship applications were reviewed by an independent committee and selected students who have demonstrated academic achievement and community service. Joel was presented the award last week at a luncheon which was part of the Unidad Latina Conference.
