Senator Golden Honors Sonia Valentin Fernandez 2012 State Senate Woman of Distinction

Albany- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) this week honored local community activist Sonia Valentin Fernandez for her outstanding work on behalf of our neighborhood and numerous causes, with special recognition from the State Senate as a 2012 “Woman of Distinction”. Senator Golden presented the award at an event in the State Capitol.
Sonia Valentin Fernandez was nominated for this recognition by the Benson Avenue Block Association. She is a member of Community Board 11, an appointee of the 62nd Precinct and attending the Citizens Police Academy, is a Founder of the Friends of John J. Carty Park, the President of the Benson Avenue Block Association, and has supported many causes that benefit victims of domestic violence, veterans, and the disadvantaged.
Senator Marty Golden stated, “I was honored to welcome an extraordinary Brooklyn woman to Albany to honor her as part of the State Senate’s Women of Distinction Program. Sonia has proven herself to be dedicated to the community and many charitable efforts. I know that she will continue her work to improve and better the neighborhood.”
