Senator Golden Plans Event to Celebrate the Year of the Dragon

Brooklyn; State Senator Marty Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) and the Chinese American Partnership, are today announcing plans, with the Chinese American Partnership, to host his 10th Annual Lunar New Year Celebration on Sunday, March 4, 2012, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at New Utrecht High School located at 1601-80th Street in Brooklyn.

The community is invited to attend the celebration of the Year of the Dragon that will include cultural performances, including the Lion Dance, Chinese opera, singing and dancing. The performance of the Cantonese opera will feature colorful costumes, bilingual subtitles and literature to introduce this traditional art.

Senator Marty Golden stated, “I am looking forward to this festive event in honor of the Year of the Dragon. I am sure that the performances of our local students and professionals that will be sure to entertain the crowd.”

Senator Marty Golden, during his tenure in the New York City Council, led passage of legislation that officially recognized Lunar New Year. In 2004, Senator Golden led passage of a State Senate Resolution officially recognizing Lunar New Year in New York State.
