Senator Golden Statement on New State Law to Support the Film and Television Industry

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), today has issued the following statement regarding legislation signed into law today by Governor Andrew Cuomo that supports the New York’s film production industry by increasing the post-production tax credit from 10 percent to 30 percent has issued the following statement:

“I thank Governor Cuomo for signing into law legislation that further demonstrates New York’s commitment to the film and movie industry. Today, the Empire State continues to offer significant incentives to film and produce movies and television programs here in New York.

I have been a leading advocate of advancing this industry throughout my tenure in the New York State Senate. The inception of the film tax credit here in New York has sparked job growth and has generated substantial tax revenue for New York City and State.

As we continue to work to get the economy moving again, it is important that New York State remains a viable location for the television and film industries. This post production tax credit makes New York even more so the place movie and film makers want to work. There is no where better to create and edit a New York scene than in New York.”

Reports are that since 2004, the tax credit program is responsible for more than 522,000 hires by the film and television industry in New York State.
