Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) is today applauding the efforts of the Gerritsen Beach Volunteer Fire Department, led by Assistant Chief Doreen Garson, for hosting a truly spectacular event last evening at the Vollies Hall in Gerritsen Beach.
The event, billed as “A Holly Vollie Christmas” was organized to aid the families of Gerritsen Beach effected by Superstorm Sandy make Christmas possible in their homes. The Vollies, along with the help of the local Boy Scouts of America, had 650 toys and 75 gift cards available for local residents to “shop” for their children and relatives. The toys and gift cards were all donated and were offered at no expense to the Gerritsen Beach residents. Once selected, the gifts were then wrapped by Boy Scout volunteers.
Senator Golden, who donated toys to the effort and continues to work with the residents of Gerritsen Beach to rebuild stated, “It was a great event and I commend all those who organized it so that the Christmas spirit, despite Sandy, was alive and well in Gerritsen Beach this year. The room was all smiles as the parents and grandparents picked those special toys for their beloved children and grandchildren. Thank you to the Gerritsen Beach Volunteer Fire Department and the Boy Scouts for your good will and charity last night, and ever since Super Storm Sandy.”
