Senator Golden: Time for New York’s License Plates to Never Let Us Forget the Tragedy of September 11th

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today issued the following statement calling on the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles to permit the issuance of a license plate commemorating the World Trade Center attacks of September 11, 2001:

“As a former New York City Police Officer, and as one who saw firsthand my community effected like never before by a single event, it is incumbent upon the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles to issue a plate paying tribute to the tragic events of 9/11 so that we will never forget.

If the Department of Motor Vehicles can do it for the New York Giants, our football heroes, there is no reason that they are unable to produce plates to recognize our American heroes, those who died in the name of freedom.

I support legislation in the State Senate that would require the Department of Motor Vehicles to issue such plates. If an executive order does not remove 9/11 remembrance plates from the State’s moratorium, then this legislation must advance in both the Senate and the Assembly.

I urge Governor Cuomo to do the right thing for every New Yorker who lost a friend, a family member, or a loved one on 9/11, and expedite the release of the remembrance plates.”
