Senator Marty Golden and Nyc Aging Commissioner Barrios-Paoli Announce Homecrest Community Services Selected as New Neighborhood Senior Center

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today was joined at a press conference by New York City Department for the Aging Commissioner Lilliam Barrios-Paoli, and officials of Homecrest Community Services, to announce their selection to operate a new neighborhood senior center located at 7907 New Utrecht Avenue in Brooklyn.

The senior center is expected to provide 23,750 congregate meals and comprehensive multi-social senior services including health and wellness care and activities, citizenship assistance, and case management. The center will also provide recreational activities and programs for the program participants.

Senator Marty Golden stated, “As a long time supporter of Homecrest Community Services, I am proud to be part of this historic announcement designating them as an official NYC Neighborhood Senior Center. I thank Commissioner Barrios-Paoli of the New York City Department for the Aging, for recognizing the need for this program to be established in my district. I know that this senior program will greatly advance the Asian American community in Southwest Brooklyn, and will support all senior citizens in need in my community.”

Golden continued, “Senior centers are places where many of New York’s older adults go for essential services and socialization. Today, we build upon the opportunities available in my community that is home to one of the highest concentrations of senior citizens in New York State.”

“DFTA congratulates Homecrest Community Services on their selection as a Neighborhood Senior Center, and we welcome them into the City’s network of senior centers,” said Department for the Aging Commissioner Lilliam Barrios-Paoli. “The programs suggested by Homecrest during the City’s rigorous solicitation process clearly demonstrated a thoughtful plan to meet the needs and desires of seniors in the burgeoning Asian community in their neighborhood.”

Richard Kuo, Executive Director of Homecrest Community Services Inc. stated “We would like to thank Senator Golden for his strong support for this senior center since its inception and his commitment to Asian-American and other disadvantaged senior citizens in southern Brooklyn. I would also like to thank NYC Department for the Aging Commissioner Lilliam Barrios-Paoli and the City of New York for developing an innovative solicitation process to enable organizations like Homecrest to compete effectively for social service contracts, such as the Neighborhood Senior Center RFP, on a level playing field and based on unique neighborhood and diverse senior needs.”

Kuo continued, “We are very pleased to be designated for this new senior center contract after many years of dedication and work. The new Center will give seniors access to essential government services and help promote their overall health, socialization and well-being.”
