Statement by Senator Golden on the World Trade Center Health Program Decision to Cover 50 Different Types of Cancer

Brooklyn – On the 11th Anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11th, Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I), after receiving word that Dr. John Howard, administrator of The World Trade Center Health Program, has ruled to allow health-coverage to extend to cancer patients, released the following statement:

“I applaud Dr. John Howard, and his decision to include 50 different types of cancer to be included on the list of illnesses to be covered by the fund. In our darkest hour, these men and women showed the strength of America and at the same time, compassion for their fellow citizens. The promise we made as a nation then, and we reiterate again today, is that we have a responsibility to stand up for our fellow Americans in their time of need. This agreement to allow cancer costs to be covered is such an important step.

We must continue the fight to insure that all those who are injured or sick from their time at ground zero receive the best medical attention possible. They are to never be forgotten for their service and sacrifice.”
