Senator Golden has received notification from the New York State Children’s Institute is the Application for Funds for School Year 2012-2013 to fund the new Primary Mental Health Project (Primary Project) programs in school.
School are invited to apply and the Application for Funds is available on the Children’s Institute website at www.childrensinstitute.net/programs/primary-project
Primary Project is an evidence based prevention and early intervention program designed to screen for and address school adjustment difficulties in students who are in kindergarten to third grade. Currently in 150 schools across the state and service approximately 3,000 students, Primary Project intervenes early to correct behaviors and support positive development before more costly interventions are required.
Nearly half of New York schools that currently have implemented Primary Mental Health Project have used the program to meet New York State Response to Intervention mandates. Public or private elementary schools, charter schools, other public agencies, and nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organizations across the state are encouraged to apply.
