On the eleven-year anniversary of September 11th , we pause to reflect on one of the darkest days in our State and Nation’s history. We solemnly honor the memory of those who lost their lives, and look back on the sacrifices, commitment and dedication of the thousands of Americans who answered the call to duty in the wake of such an enormous tragedy.
As New Yorkers across the State gather to remember our fallen heroes and loved ones, I will be participating in two ceremonies in the Finger Lakes region.
Geneva- I will be speaking at a community-wide September 11th Commemoration Ceremony beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Long Pier Memorial. The ceremony will include a posting of the colors by the Geneva Fire Department Color Guard and a Rifle Squad Salute by the American Legion Color Guard. The memorial is located at 41 Lakefront Drive in Geneva.
Webster- In addition, I will be speaking at the Village of Webster’s September 11th Memorial Service which will begin at 7:00 pm at the Gazebo in the Veterans Memorial Park, located on North Avenue.
Eleven years ago on September 11th, 2001, we witnessed one of the darkest days in our State and Nation’s history. It was a day that forever changed the way we look at the world.
As we approach the anniversary of September 11th , we pause to reflect on how our world was changed by that tragedy, and its lasting impact over the last eleven years. As we solemnly honor the memory of those who lost their lives, we can also look back with pride on the sacrifices, commitment and dedication of the thousands of Americans who answered the call to duty in the wake of such an enormous tragedy.
I’ve often said that a person is a hero not for what they do, but for what they would do. And I know there is nothing that our service men and women, our firemen, police officers or our emergency rescue personnel would not do to protect their community or serve their Country. We will never forget.
