Senator Gallivan is Pleased That DOT Will Move Quickly To Repair Old 219 Bridge

Senator's Priority Remains, "Long Term Viability of Springville Span"

Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R,C,I - 59th District) reacted to today’s announcement that the New York State Department of Transportation will expedite the structural repairs needed to restore vehicular traffic to the Old 219 Bridge (South Cascade – Miller Road) spanning the Cattaraugus Creek between the Towns of Concord and Ashford.

“Since the bridge’s closing in early January, the businesses, their employees, and area residents have been severely impacted, particularly in the Village of Springville’s central business district along South Cascade Drive,” the Senator said. “My initial concern was for the safety of area residents, but I have also made clear my concerns about the economic future of the businesses located in Springville.”

Senator Gallivan also thanked the NYSDOT, local leaders, and area business owners for being engaged and constructive partners. “Throughout this process I have met regularly with transportation officials in Albany and Western New York, and today’s announcement indicates they took my concerns, and the concerns of the local community, seriously.”

The DOT announced that after having completing their structural safety review ahead of schedule, they will immediately begin the process of repairing the faulty bearing that forced the bridge’s closure on January 5th.
